If you’re looking for a huge TV to fill your room, this Samsung UN55C6300 55-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED HDTV (Black) is a great value.  Now’s a good time to get that LED TV because prices have come down a lot due to 3D HDTVs.  And right now, you probably don’t want to invest in a 3D TV.  It’s a nice novelty but you won’t be converting your library to 3D anytime soon. In my opinion, 3D just doesn’t work well at home on a screen less than 100 inches in diameter.  Since you lose the 3D effect near the left and right edges of the screen (I’d say a good 10 percent of the screen on each side), you need a REALLY big screen to push that part of the screen outside your field of view far enough so that it doesn’t bother you.  In the theater, it’s great because the screen are usually very large, at home, not so much.  Another reason 3D is annoying (especially at home) are the glasses.  The glasses are about $100 – $200, and use batteries.  The glasses also forces the frame rate to be 1/2 of what it can be, so motion on the screen won’t be as smooth as they can be.  Glasses (especially the polarized kind) also sap the color out of the picture, I’m sure you’ve noticed that from the theaters. Therefore, I think it’s a great time to get an HDTV that doesn’t have 3D technology.  Check out the Samsung.  It’s sleek, and has all the features you would need in an HDTV besides 3D.  It only has 120Hz (times it can refresh the screen per second), whereas some TVs have 240Hz.  The 240Hz right now is kinda gimmicky.  In reality, all media, whether it’s bluray, DVD, cable or satellite goes to the TV (at most) at 60Hz.  But 120Hz is nice to have b/c the TV can interpolate (create) frames to make the picture look smoother.  TVs do a great job up to about 120Hz… 240Hz is really pushing it and it won’t really be noticeable.  In fact, you might notice some glitchy artifacts at 240Hz when the action is intense due to the TV trying (and failing) really hard to create 3 additional frames per “real” frame.
